Description

If people know anything about Lucy Webb Hayes, it’s her nickname “Lemonade Lucy.”  But she wouldn’t have recognized the moniker, it was applied decades after her death during the Prohibition movement in the early 20th century.  Lucy Hayes was a much more complex woman than her nickname implies.  Through her own words, photographs, and first-hand accounts from those who knew her, learn how Lucy evolved from a shy youngster into the First Lady of the United States. Presented by Christie Weininger.

Christie Weininger is the executive director of the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library & Museums in Fremont. She graduated from Otterbein University with a degree in history.  While there, she volunteered in the college archives and completed internships with the Ohio History Connection, the Motorcycle Heritage Museum, and the Plymouth Area Historical Society. Weininger earned her master’s degree in history from the University of Toledo. Weininger was the director of the Wood County Museum, Bowling Green, for nine years and spent seven years as director/curator of the Wyandot County Museum, Upper Sandusky. She is currently the Vice President of the Ohio Travel Association, Vice President of the Ohio Museums Association, and a board member of the American Association for State and Local History.  Her favorite pastime is to load up the car with friends, family, great snacks, a road atlas, and no specific destination.
