Description
In December 1860 Ulysses S. Grant watches in dismay as southern states secede from the Union. He writes a letter to a friend about the situation and refers to President James Buchannan as a "present granny of an executive." Obviously, Grant is less than enthusiastic about the actions of President Buchannan during the secession winter of 1860-61.
Join Park Ranger Ashton as he discusses why Grant felt this way by exploring what Buchannan was doing in these critical months leading up to the American Civil War.
