Description

The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal NHP is excited to host our first Write With a Ranger programs! During October, the @nationalparkservice and the @nationalwritingproject co-sponsor Write Out! #WriteOut invites educators, students, and families to explore national parks and other public spaces through place-based writing. This year’s theme is Poetry, Prose and the Parks!

Come spend time outside, enjoy the beautiful fall foliage, learn about the art of nature writing, and deepen your connection to nature along the C&O Canal.

Two Write With a Ranger programs will be held this year. The first program will be on Saturday, October 14th at 10:00 a.m. at Carderock. The program will be held in the tree area between the picnic pavilion and the restrooms. Parking and restrooms will be available during this program.

The second program will be held on Sunday, October 15th at 2:00 p.m. This program will be held along the river near Lockhouse 6. Participants should plan to meet at the lockhouse, and the group will go down to the river together. It will be a short walk along a dirt trail to get to the program location near the kayak course. Please note that parking is limited in the Lock 6 area and that restrooms will not be available in this location. The address is 6100 Clara Barton Pkwy, Bethesda, MD, 20816.

Each Write With a Ranger program will include a 30-minute interpretive program as well as time for participants to do their own nature inspired writing! The total program length will be one hour.
Participants should bring something to sit on such as a camp chair or a blanket, water, and your favorite writing materials.

The Write With a Ranger programs are for visitors of all ages. There is no registration required for the program. These are free programs.
