Join us for a History at Sunset guided walk on Saturday, August 20, at 6:30 pm.

This week's program-

Thunder and Flame: Bernard's Cabins in the Battle of Fredericksburg

Explore one of the lesser-known aspects of the battle that took place on December 13, 1862. Discover the story of an artillery duel that would destroy the homes of enslaved workers and leave a permanent mark on the land around it. Learn about "Latimer's Knoll" and the battery of guns that gave it its name.

Meet at Bernard’s Cabins trailhead (on the south part of Lee Drive about .6 miles from Lansdowne Road). Park along the nearby road shoulders. The program will include about 1+ mile of walking, along a relatively flat wooded trail and across a grassy open field. With recent rain, the trail may be muddy. Participants should bring bug spray and water and wear sturdy, comfortable walking shoes.

In the event of inclement weather, check the park Facebook page for cancellations or updates. Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania County Battlefields National Military Park (facebook.com)
