Description

River Raisin National Battlefield Park Presenatation:

"Historical Hauntings of Monroe"

Sunday, October 29, 2032, at 2 pm in the new state of the art theater at 333 North Dixie Highway, the River Raisin National Battlefield Park’s own staff member, Shawna Mazur, will be doing a presentation based off of her recently released book “Hidden History of Monroe County, Michigan.”

Get in the Halloween Spirit by traveling back in time to Monroe’s Haunted Past! Listen to the French Legends of Monsters, Frightening Tragic Tales, and Witches. Hear about the unbelievable Crime of the Century along with Monroe’s sordid past of Body Snatching, Cemeteries - where the Dead don’t Rest in Peace, Ghost Towns and more.

Don’t miss this special presentation just for the holiday! After the presentation Shawna will have the book available for purchase and will be happy to custom sign it for you.

Published by Arcadia’s The History Press, the book reveals many fascinating aspects of Monroe County’s rich history such as the Underground Railroad, Prohibition, Forgotten Cemeteries, Crimes, Tragedies, Spooky French Legends, etc.

Shawna has lived in Monroe all her life. In 2007, Shawna was hired by the Monroe County Historical Museums. Having a bachelor’s degree in history and literature, she was thrilled to be employed in her field. Shawna’s love of history, research and writing led to an article in Michigan History Magazine and the Little Big Horn Associates newsletter, as well as the local newspaper. In 2011, when the National Park Service took over the River Raisin Battlefield site, she was fortunate enough to be hired as an interpretive ranger. She contributed to growing the park and developing some of the park’s interpretive programs, publications and curriculums. She is currently the administrative assistant and retains the position of ranger. She recently researched and wrote a book for the NPS about tracing the remains of the Kentucky volunteer militia soldiers who did not survive the River Raisin battles.
