Description
Explore the interconnections of the natural and human landscapes on the barrier island from the Fire Island Pines to Sailors Haven. Stroll the pedestrian boardwalks through the vibrant seaside communities of the Fire Island Pines and Cherry Grove and traverse swale and ocean shore natural habitats as you make your way to Sailors Haven. After the program, you can explore the Sunken Forest on your town and take the ferry back to Sayville from Sailors Haven.
Take the 9:25 am Fire Island Pines ferry from Sayville and meet the park ranger on Fire Island at the Pines ferry landing at 10 am. Wear comfortable walking shoes; bring sun and insect protection, a snack and drinking water. 2.5 miles, one way.
