Description

Join National Park Service Ranger Jerry Hightower for a walk back in time and stroll from the Historic Roswell Mill Building past the brick machine shop and along Vickery Creek to the old mill dam. This program covers 10,000 years of human history in just 2.5 hours. Learn the stories behind the old stone walls and rusted remnants of this once bustling industrial area. Become acquainted with many of the plants along the easy path that were used by the first inhabitants and settlers for food, medicine, and dye. There may be a fable or two mixed in with the many fascinating facts. This is an easy and enjoyable way to gain a better understanding of this small part of the Chattahoochee watershed’s rich and diverse history.

Facilities: Located in the Roswell Visitor Center on the square and a portable toilet by the parking lot.

Difficulty: This walk is leisurely. These walks are quite slow with numerous stops to discuss items of interest along the way. Note: This walk is not suitable for very young children.

Bring: Dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes suitable for walking on a forest trail. Dress in layers so that you can adjust to changes in the temperature and activity level. Bring water and you might include snacks. You may wish to bring binoculars and a hand lens.
