Description

OAK RIDGE, Tennessee – Join National Park Rangers and the public to decorate luminarias with messages of peace. All materials will be provided for anyone to stop by and decorate a luminaria.

All the luminarias will be used during the Manhattan Project National Historical Park August 6 “Days of Peace and Remembrance” sunrise bell ringing event. The park will be ringing the International Friendship Bell at dawn 77 times at dawn on Saturday, August 6 to commemorate the effects of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. An hour before dawn park rangers will light the luminarias which will remain lit throughout the commemoration event.

The ringing of the bell will be at 6:47 AM at the Peace Pavilion in A.K. Bissel Park 1401 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, Tennessee 37830. Luminarias will also be lit at commemoration events in Hanford, Washington; Los Alamos, New Mexico; and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
