Description

The term Blue Moon, has been used to reference two types of full moons. The oldest form of the term is the Seasonal Blue Moon. Seasonal Blue Moons are the 3rd full moon in a season that has 4 full moons. As the seasons are 3 months long there are normally only 3 full moons per season. A seasonal Blue Moon only happens around every 2.5 years.

Join the park staff and volunteers at the Star Fort Pond off Kinard Rd as the sun sets and this special moon rises. The park's telescope will be available to give you a close up view of the Earth's natural satellite.

Feel free to bring a lawn chair, towel, or blanket to sit on as we gaze up at the sky. Personal telescopes are welcome, but the park is not responsible for any damage. Flashlight are allowed, but we suggest putting a red filter or red plastic wrap over it. This will allow you to get and keep your night vision.

Parking for the program is available at the Star Fort Pond Entrance off Kinard Road off Highway 246.

In the case of heavy cloud cover or inclement weather this event will be cancelled.
