Description

We regret to inform that we are POSTPONING this event until early 2025, because of the forecasted weather and rainfall. Thanks for your understanding.

Join us on October 8 at 3:00 PM for an afternoon of literary escape, where we combine nature and poetry at Everglades National Park.

We are thrilled to be hosting, Ada Limón, the 24th U.S. National Poet Laureate. Limón's visionary project, “You Are Here,” unveils site-specific poem installations across seven iconic U.S. national parks, including Everglades National Park.

The ceremony will be a surprise unveil of our own picnic table installation with an overlay featuring “Ecology” by June Jordan.

Poetry in Parks is the first partnership between the National Park Service, Library of Congress, U.S. National Poet Laureate, and Poetry Society of America. The initiative is one half of Ada Limón’s signature project titled, “You Are Here.” The project also includes an anthology of original poems by 50 contemporary American poets. A book signing will follow the event.

National parks offer an inclusive space for artists to create works that reflect their individual experience of the landscape. Poetry can help us understand and appreciate the diverse landscapes found in our national parks and the world around us.
