Description

National Trails Day is an annual event hosted by the American Hiking Society which celebrates not only national scenic and historic trails, but all trails on public lands.

Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (PATC) members will be tabling at both visitor centers to talk about Leave No Trace Principles and trail maintenance in the Park.

Hikes led by PATC members are available for registration on their site:

  • From Dickey Ridge Visitor Center (mile 4.6), join an 11-mile hike along the Appalachian Trail, ascending to Compton Peak.
  • From Byrd Visitor Center (mile 51), enjoy a 5.5-mile hike along Rose River Falls and Story of the Forest Loop.
  • From Loft Mountain Wayside (mile 80.5), join a 5-mile hike beginning on Frazier Discovery Trail and continuing south on the Appalachian Trail.
