Description

Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will present a special 30-minute ranger led talk about the life of Chickamauga Cherokee Chief Doublehead. Doublehead rose to prominence during Chief Dragging Canoe’s resistance against encroachment upon the Chickamauga Cherokee lands in the late 18th Century, becoming a feared and valuable lieutenant for Dragging Canoe. This program will be conducted on Moccasin Bend, at 10 Hamm Road, Chattanooga, TN. Please bring a folding chair and dress appropriately for weather conditions.

Doublehead proved to be an important defender of the Chickamauga Cherokee lands, however, after the Chickamauga wars came to an end, his ambition seemed to get the best of him, and he came into conflict with former allies and was viewed as a traitor to some of the people who once hailed him as a hero.
