Description

National Public Lands Day (NPLD) is the largest single-day volunteer effort for America’s public lands. Each year, thousands of volunteers come together on the fourth Saturday in September to help restore, improve, and enjoy public lands around the country.

On NPLD, we’ll join “Together for Tomorrow” to ensure the longevity of our cherished places while fostering environmental stewardship among youth and their communities. This is a chance for people to connect with their communities, fostering a kinship found among those working together for the greater good. It’s an opportunity to establish deep, meaningful connections for youth with nature by providing positive experiences outdoors. Most importantly, it’s a showcase for America’s public lands and their capacity for providing education, recreation, and overall benefits to our physical and mental health.

This is a special opportunity for you to contribute your time and talent to your backyard park. The work you do will help us to keep our visitors, geological features, wildlife and resources safe. You’ll help us with projects that are normally done by our staff, freeing them up to do other tasks.

  • Entry is free for all visitors on Public Lands Day, September 28, 2024.
  • We’ll start promptly at 12:00 p.m. at the Visitor Center Plaza, and finish at 3:00 p.m. Participants should plan to attend the entire time.
  • The Park will supply materials, gloves, and other equipment as needed. Participants should wear closed-toe shoes (sport shoes, hiking boots, no sandals) and layered clothing. Bring sunscreen, insect repellent and water.
  • Each participant will get a fee-free entry pass to federally managed public lands good for up to one year from our event.
  • Kids under 12 will stay with their parents.
  • Please, no pets for this event.
