Description
Join the Charlestown Navy Yard, crew of USS Constitution, and Boston National Historical Park on Saturday, September 11, 2021 for a day of service and remembrance to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. The day's events are as follows:
- Memorial Ceremony | 9:00 – 9:30 am | Charlestown Navy Yard: The memorial ceremony will be led by USS Constitution Commanding Officer, John Benda and will feature remarks by CDR Robert S. Gerosa, Jr., USN (Ret.). CDR Gerosa served as commanding officer of USS Constitution from 2015 – 2017 and at the time of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, he was the Combat Information Center Officer and Assistant Operations Officer on board the guided missile destroyer, USS Ramage (DDG 61).
- Thank A Veteran | 9:30 am – 5:00 pm | USS Constitution Museum: All day, visitors to the Constitution Museum can write a thank you card to a veteran and package it with a lifesaving paracord bracelet. The bracelets and letters will be distributed to Vietnam veterans in New England by Operation Gratitude. Advance registration is not required for this drop-in activity, and all ages are welcome to participate.
- Care Package Assembly Day | 10:00 am – 5:00 pm丨USS Constitution Museum: Help say thank you to members of the U.S. Military with Operation Gratitude, on Saturday, September 11, as they pack 1,000 Recruit Graduate care pouches for new Sailors and Coast Guardsmen. Advance registration is required for this event.
- USS Constitution Underway | 11:00 am – 2:00 pm 丨Boston Harbor: USS Constitution is scheduled to get underway honoring the Medal of Honor recipients in Boston for their convention starting at 11:00 AM. The best views will be from the Charlestown Navy Yard, Fort Independence at Castle Island, and the Boston Harborwalk.
