Description

Take a scenic stroll through art, history, and nature at the very first “Art Walk” event at Indiana Dunes National Park on Saturday, August 17 from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Come out and enjoy artwork displayed from the park’s Artist-In-Residence program as you wander the wooded ravines, open fields, and historic buildings along the Bailly/Chellberg Trail

Get inspired and create your own artwork at the different stations along the way with help from local collaborators including Art Barn of ValparaisoChesterton Art Center, and South Shore Arts in Munster. This family-friendly afternoon is sponsored by the Friends of Indiana Dunes, Inc. and begins at the Volunteer Program Office at 891 N. Mineral Springs Road, across the street from Chellberg Farm.

National Parks have long been sources of inspiration for artists, harkening back to the days of individuals like George Catlin and Thomas Coles. Their works brought attention to the value of these lands that may have otherwise gone unnoticed. Artists like Earl H. Reed and Frank Dudley, through their artwork, helped underscore the importance of preserving both the natural beauty and heritage of Indiana Dunes and other such parks for future generations to come.

At Indiana Dunes National Park, we continue this artistic legacy with our annual Artist-In-Residence program. The residency program offers professional artists the opportunity to live in the park for two weeks to provide a serene setting to connect deeply with both nature and their craft.

Indiana Dunes National Park has an entrance fee of $25 per car for a 1–7-day pass. A $45 annual pass for the national park is also available. Please purchase passes or pay the entrance fee at the Indiana Dunes Visitor Center, Paul H. Douglas Center, or at recreation.gov. Veterans/Military/Gold Star Family, Access, and 4th Grade passes are available for free. For more information on national park, visit the Fees & Passes page.

The Volunteer Program Office is located on Mineral Springs Road between U.S. Highway 20 and U.S. Highway 12 in Porter, Indiana.
