Description

Take a glimpse into the past and join us for the Smokies Harvest Celebration on the Mountain Farm Museum at Oconaluftee Visitor Center.  On Saturday, October 8th and 15th, from 10AM – 3PM, share in some of the traditional fall pursuits that were an important part of rural life in these southern mountains. Our celebration reflects the spirit of cooperation that existed among families and neighbors. This event preserves the legacy of Appalachian folkways that were practiced for generations by the many families who lived on lands that would later become Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Enjoy interactive demonstrations such as sorghum-processing, blacksmithing, apple cider pressing, broom-making, fiber arts and textiles, folk remedies, woodworking, and much more! All activities are free and open to the public.

The Mountain Farm Museum is located adjacent to the park`s Oconaluftee Visitor Center on US 441 in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, two miles north of Cherokee, North Carolina. For more information call the visitor center at (828)497-1904.
