Description

Every day from October 14 to November 2 (Día de los Muertos) visit the granary at Mission San José during park hours (9am-5pm) to view the mission community's ofrendas.

Ofrendas are an essential part of Día de los Muertos. The word ofrenda means "offering" in Spanish. They are also called altares or altars, but not for worship. These altars are full of symbols and meaning, honoring the ancestors who have passed, and offering them staples of the celebration such a pan de muerto and marigold flowers.
