Description

Go on a ranger guided walking tour to see the “…nest that hatched the egg” of the conspiracy to kill President Abraham Lincoln. The tour will stop at Mary Surratt’s Boarding House, and other places associated with the assassination and Civil War Washington including Ford’s Theatre, the Patent Office, St. Patrick’s Church, the Odd Fellow’s Hall, and the Herndon House. During the tour, you will hear the evidence presented of Mary Surratt's guilt, and evidence against some of the other conspirators including Lewis Powell, George Atzerodt, Dr. Samuel Mudd, and Louis Weichmann. The tour will take a fair look at the evidence supporting the conspirators' guilt or innocence. At the end of the tour, you will take on the role of the jury and weigh in on whether justice was served for Mary Surratt and the other conspirators.   

Meet Ranger Layton at the Navy Memorial at 701 Pennylvania Avenue NW. The tour will be about 90 minutes, and will include about one mile of walking through downtown Washington, D.C.
