Redwood Creek Dispersed Camping Access & Information

Dispersed Camping Rules & Regulations

  • Food Security & Bears - All food items, cooking utensils, bathroom items, or anything with a smell must always be kept secure by either hanging them from a tree or storing in a bear can (unless actively using or cooking). Never feed wildlife!

  • Water - No treated water source is available. Drink filtered/purified water from Redwood Creek tributaries, not from the main channel itself.

  • Fires - Remember to completely put out your fire before leaving it and dismantle your fire ring. Up to 50 lbs. of dead and downed wood per day per campsite may be collected from gravel bars.
  • Garbage and Human Waste Disposal - Pack out solid human waste or bury in “cat-hole” at least 6” deep in soil (not leaf litter), and at least 200 ft from any water source, campsite, or trail; pack out toilet paper.
  • Redwood Creek Safety - The seasonal footbridges have not been placed over Redwood Creek. Steam crossings can only be done on foot. Be careful, you will get wet!
  • Practicing Leave No Trace Principles is required on the gravel bar. Please pack out what you packed in, including toilet paper!

  • PLEASE remember to lock your vehicle, take valuables with you, and leave nothing in sight.

Parking at Redwood Creek Trailhead

  • The parking area is located off of Bald Hills Road. Just a bit up Bald Hills Road you will see a paved road to the right, with a sign for Redwood Creek Trailhead, take this road to the trailhead parking area. PLEASE remember to lock your vehicle, take valuables with you, and leave nothing in sight. This trailhead has a history of being a bad break-in spot.
  • You cannot camp within 1.5 miles of the Redwood Creek Trailhead (you must pass the first major creek crossing). You must be 1/4 miles away from the Tall Trees Grove before you can start camping (on the gravel bar only).
  • You can hike in further and camp if you would like to the Tall Trees Grove, which is an 8-mile hike from the Redwood Creek Trailhead.
  • Seasonal footbridges have not been placed over Redwood Creek. You will have to cross the steam on foot.
 

Parking at Tall Trees Trailhead

  • The parking area is located off of the Tall Trees Access Road, which is a 6-mile long gravel road. A permit is required for this road and is included with this email.
  • You must be 1/4 miles away from the Tall Trees Grove before you can start camping (on the gravel bar only).
  • Seasonal footbridges have not been placed over Redwood Creek. Steam crossings can only be done on foot. Be careful, you will get wet!
  • You cannot camp within 1.5 miles of the Redwood Creek Trailhead (past the first creek crossing).
 

Parking at Orick Horse Trailhead

  • The parking area is located off Drydens Road in the town of Orick. Orick School sits on the corner of Drydens Road, follow the road past the school, as the road turns left you will see the gravel parking area up on the left.
  • It is a 6.5-mile hike to the Redwood Creek Gravel Bar from where you park your vehicle.
  • You must be 1/4 miles away from the Tall Trees Grove before you can start camping (on the gravel bar only). You cannot camp within 1.5 miles of the Redwood Creek Trailhead (do not camp past the last major creek crossing).
  • The seasonal footbridges have not been placed over Redwood Creek and creek crossings can only be done on foot. Be careful.
