Come to Lowell on July 27-29 for the 32nd annual Lowell Folk Festival- one of the largest and longest-running free folk festivals in the country.
The Lowell Folk Festival will feature five (5) stages, from the serene Saint Anne's Stage to the full-throttle energy at Dutton Street Dance Pavilion. Fans of folk and traditional music can meet up with old friends at JFK Plaza, sit back on the cool grass of Market Street Stage, and party into the night at Boarding House Park. Check out the list of this year's performers below and find complete details at http://lowellfolkfestival.org/. (Also keep up with the latest folk festival announcements on Facebook).
This year’s folk craft area draws attention to four basic techniques underlying the work of traditional master artists – painting, plaiting, pounding, and pulling. Explore unique works ranging from Zimbabwe Mbira making to Finnish Birch Bark Basketry. Craft traditions evolve from the human response to utilitarian needs and the quest for beauty. Check out the Keepers of Tradition blog for more info on this year's craftspeople.
Enjoy the smells and flavors from a global collection of ethnic food traditions. Try them all- Polish pierogi, Armenian losh ka bob, Greek baklava sundaes, Pilipino lumpia, and a host of African and Southeast Asian food specialties will be available at the ethnic food vendors at the stages at Dutton Street, JFK Plaza, Boarding House Park, and Market Street. In the Foodways area, experience demonstrations of food traditions connected to coastal and inland foodways.
