Bandelier National Monument and Valles Caldera National Preserve are protected landscapes managed by the National Park Service (NPS) in the Jemez Mountains of northern New Mexico. These adjoining parks have been long-standing hubs for research in the areas of ecology, geology, anthropology, archaeology, and many other fields.

The Jemez Mountains Research Learning Center (RLC) was established in 2020 as a partnership between these two parks and the United States Geological Survey's New Mexico Landscapes Field Station (NMLFS) to enhance science-based land management and inspire the public to better understand the nation's natural resources and cultural heritage. The objectives of the Jemez Mountains RLC are:

  1. To provide public-facing information communicating the past and ongoing science conducted on the two park units and in the broader landscape of the Jemez Mountains.

  2. To serve as a repository for data, reports, and other information on the natural and cultural resources of the Jemez Mountains with links to other northern New Mexico landscapes.

  3. To be a hub for science-management partnerships and public information exchange in the region.

  4. To provide opportunities for the public to engage with researchers and managers around issues facing northern New Mexico landscapes and the communities therein.
