On Sunday, July 21, 2024, the National Park Service at the request of the United States Secret Service instituted a temporary restriction of access to certain parkland in Rock Creek Park and National Mall and Memorial Parks associated with activities of a Secret Service Protectee as delineated in the attached map and as further delineated by fencing, and other methods of communication to the public. Specifically, the temporary closures that began for the public at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, 2024 are extended to approximately 12:00 a.m. on Monday, July 29, 2024 at the following locations: National Mall and Memorial Parks • Parkway Drive NW, between Rock Creek and Potomac Parkway NW and Lincoln Memorial Circle, NW. (the adjacent sidewalks and trails will remain open to pedestrian traffic) • Rock Creek Parkway NW, between Virginia Avenue NW and the Potomac River Freeway NW. Rock Creek Parkway • Thompson Boat Center Parking Lot, 2900 Virginia Avenue NW The following parklands will temporarily be closed to pedestrian access: • The Rock Creek Trail within the fenced security perimeter. A map illustrating the closed park areasis attached. The park area will be closed to the public to provide security and ensure public safety associated with events involving a Secret Service Protectee. Please note, it is anticipated that Secret Service personnel will temporarily restrict public access in these areas during the installation and removal of anti-scale fencing. These restrictions began on Sunday, July 21, 2024, from approximately 11:30 p.m. are National Park Service National Mall and Memorial Parks National Capital Region extended to approximately 12:00 a.m. on Monday, July 29, 2024. These public access restrictions are necessary to maintain the closure and to ensure the safety of the public and personnel engaged in fence removal. The National Park Service appreciates the public's cooperation in this matter.
