Pet Guidelines

Visitor Education Center

To ensure the safety and comfort of all visitors, pets are not allowed inside the Visitor Education Center.

Service Animals Are Welcome
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) defines a service animal as any guide dog, signal dog, or other animal individually trained to perform tasks for a person with a disability. This can include assisting individuals who are blind or have low vision, alerting individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, pulling a wheelchair, or retrieving items for individuals with mobility impairments. Service animals are recognized under the ADA regardless of whether they have been licensed or certified by state or local authorities.

The Richmond Bay Trail and Pets

The Richmond Bay Trail offers a wonderful opportunity for you and your pet to enjoy the outdoors. To ensure the safety and enjoyment of all trail users, we ask that you adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Leash Requirement: All pets must be kept on a leash at all times while on the trail. This helps to prevent accidents and ensures that all visitors can enjoy their time on the trail without disruption.
  • Pet Waste: Please be responsible and clean up after your pet. Pet waste stations are available at various points along the trail for your convenience.
  • Respect Wildlife: The Bay Trail is home to a variety of wildlife. Please ensure your pet does not disturb or chase any animals you may encounter.
  • Hydration and Safety: Bring water and a bowl for your pet, especially during warm weather. Be mindful of the trail conditions and the physical limitations of your pet to prevent overexertion.

For any questions or concerns regarding pet laws and regulations in local Richmond parks and public areas, please contact the City of Richmond. They can provide you with comprehensive information and assist with any specific queries you may have.
