Update: Site Observation Update Weeks Sept 15th

Wow, about one month away from the handover finishing touches are in full swing. Asphalt has been laid throughout the site, and landscape restoration is underway. Inside, bathrooms are receiving their final fixtures, the bookstore is finished, and entryways are nearly finished. What was once a dream is now revealing itself and the result is more than we had hoped for.

It’s important to note that all crew members are employing all those health and safety measure that we are all practicing, including social distancing. Work crew members are being monitored regularly, and sanitation facilities are available for the crew. While the project is certainly important, the health and safety of employees and workers is much more important.

(A) The day has arrived…we have asphalt, and lots of it. Asphalt has been laid on the entrance road, along the old access road and cul-de-sac, and both the upper and lower parking lots.Collage showing finishing touches in bathrooms, bookstore, server room, and entryway
(B) Moving inside for a moment we see bathrooms receiving finishing touches, entry doors get their automatic openers, a computer serer rack installed, and the new bookstore being unveiled.

(C) Above in this somewhat surreal photo workers lay asphalt in a dense fog, or is that smoke, just in front of the main entry. Beautiful!

(D) Over the months we have shown you many frontal views of the new structure, but this one is the most complete to-date. Almost done!

(E) Below we see a wide view of the building from the south end of the lower parking area showing our beloved locust trees, the monument, and our new rock wall.

(F) Below at the interpretive plaza, we see the knee wall being installed around the plaza; great for sitting and picnicking.

Restoration of landscape along path to parade grounds
(G) Landscape restoration always comes last. Here we see leveling of dirt along the walkway from the visitor center to the trail to the parade area. Lots more of this to come.
