Our Staff & Offices

The Superintendent of Salem Maritime National Historic Site is the top park official, responsible for managing and supervising all park operations and activities. A division manager heads each division. The management team and staff at Salem Maritime also manage Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site in Saugus, MA.

Divisions within the park include Visitor Experience and Community Engagement (VECE), Resource Stewardship, Maintenance, Special Park Uses, and Administration.

 

Visitor Experience and Community Engagement Division

The Visitor Experience and Community Engagement (VECE) Division is responsible for information/education programs and services provided to park visitors and neighbors. The division manages park partnerships, publications, interpretive exhibits, and media relations. Interpretive rangers provide a variety of ranger-led programs to the public and a curriculum-based education program reaches many students in local schools.

Interpretive staff developed a statement to focus the desired impact of their interpretation. This impact statement is a long-term aspiration that shapes their interpretation. It is high-level and inspirational, not restrictive or time-specific.

Engage visitors with the multi-faceted stories of Salem and maritime New England and their place in a global society, and inspire visitors to interact with their communities and the world.

Resource Stewardship Division

The Resource Stewardship Division provides guidance to park management on all matters related to cultural and natural resources. The division also maintains an extensive museum collection.

Maintenance Division

The Maintenance Division maintains all roads, trails, buildings, utilities, grounds, vehicles, boats (including Friendship of Salem) and other physical facilities in the park to assure their safe use.

Special Park Uses Division

The Special Park Uses Division manages administrative and operational processes that provide visitors with personal opportunities and business activities in park settings. The division also maintains physical security and safety through staff training, shared responsibility, and strong cooperation with local communities.

Administrative Division

The Administrative Division supports financial, personnel, and information technology operations. The division assists staff with the tools, processes and procedures needed to perform park operations efficiently and effectively.
