THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR SAMO-VRP Closure Order # [25-002] January 10, 2025 EFFECTIVE January 10, 2025, at 1 p.m. Until Further Notice. Closures, restrictions, and public use limits: Closure Order – Portion of a Park Area: Under the authority provided to the Superintendent in 36 CFR 1.5, the following park areas and facilities are closed, effective January 10, 2025 – Until Further Notice: • Solstice Canyon parking lot, trails, and facilities. • Cheeseboro parking lot, trails, and facilities. Authority: 36 CFR 1.5(a)(1) Notice: This administrative order applies to all individuals subject to the regulatory authority of the National Park Service (NPS) within the boundaries of Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, including park visitors, government employees, concession employees, park residents and stakeholders, except as follows: State or Federal Government employees engaged in official duties, individuals associated with the ongoing construction project to include workers and deliveries. Finding: On January 7, 2025, the Palisades Fire ignited under severe fire weather conditions and quickly grew to more than 15,000 acres. The fire is surrounded by numerous other fires around the Los Angeles basin, including the Kenneth Fire that ignited on January 9, 2025, impacting parkland immediately adjacent to Cheeseboro Canyon. These directives require the NPS to take the actions identified above because: These closures are to minimize confusion and be consistent with our land management partners within the National Recreation Area. Fire operations are still ongoing in the area and conflicting NPS operations at these sites. NPS personnel are engaged with fire incident operations and the strain on resources conflicts with safe enjoyment by the public. This order is effective immediately and will remain in effect until further notice.
