The National Park Service (NPS) has selected Cedar Grove Pack Station, owned by Timothy B. Loverin, to operate the Cedar Grove Pack Station and Grant Grove Stables under a new five year concession contract with Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks.

“We are pleased to continue working with Mr. Loverin as the concessioner for the Cedar Grove Pack Station and Grant Grove Stables,” said Woody Smeck, superintendent for Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. “The National Park Service is excited to provide visitors with the opportunity to experience Kings Canyon National Park’s spectacular natural and cultural resources in a way so many have done over the centuries.”

The new five year concession contract with Cedar Grove Pack Station begins January 1, 2019. New operations are expected to be ready for visitor enjoyment at the beginning of the season, May 11, 2019.

Services under the new concession contract will continue current guided horseback ride operations and incorporate the implementation of new guidelines set forth by the Sequoia and Kings Canyon Wilderness Stewardship Plan, finalized in 2015. Cedar Grove Pack Station will be also be authorized to provide additional services such as souvenir sales, vending, special events, guided pack stock services, and instructional courses related to stock instructional skills.

Background
The existing concession contract was awarded to Timothy B. Loverin and Patty Loverin on June 1, 1997, for a four-year term, with an expiration date of May 31, 2001. The NPS continued visitor services under the existing concession contract through annual continuation letters to avoid service interruptions during prospectus development. A prospectus was finalized and announced on March 28, 2018 and proposals were accepted through August 15, 2018.
