The NPS is taking extraordinary steps to implement the latest guidance from state and local authorities, which support the CDC’s efforts to promote social distancing and slow the spread of COVID-19. The NPS is modifying operations, until further notice, for facilities and programs that cannot adhere to this guidance.

Shiloh National Military Park announces the cancellation of ALL public gathering events planned in the park for the months of March and April 2020.  Decisions on events taking place this summer will be announced closer to those event dates. However, where it is possible to adhere to this guidance, outdoor spaces will remain open to the public at this time.

The park had planned on hosting the volunteer event “Park Day” on Saturday, March 28. Park Day is the largest annual volunteer event for our battlefields and is sponsored by the American Battlefield Trust. On March 16, Trust President Jim Lighthizer issued this statement:

“Given the unprecedented impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19), the American Battlefield Trust has made the decision to postpone and reschedule its public events.”

Interim Shiloh Superintendent Randy Martin said “we hope to reschedule this volunteer event for later in the year if possible.”

All of the park’s annual Battle of Shiloh anniversary events, scheduled for April 4-8, 2020, have also been cancelled. These activities included the vintage baseball games, artillery demonstrations, Civil War Navy exhibits, and the popular ranger-led battlefield hikes battlefield hikes and car caravan tours. These events will not be rescheduled in 2020.
