Located in the Blacksmith Shop, Glen Haven, this axe head is from the 1860s. Created of wrought iron, the head has a steel edge, a very modern update for its era. Steel contains an alloy of iron and carbon whereas wrought iron is composed entirely of iron. Its wedge shape provided a more durable design that could be sharpened to a finer edge. |
