The Natural Resource Condition Assessment (NRCA) Program provides framework, funding, and publishing support to parks to aid in the synthesis and documentation of natural resource conditions. Condition assessment reports are a tool to describe selected park resources, and record a snapshot of their current condition, identify trends, and identify potential or current threats and stressors. Understanding the condition and trend of natural resources is key for parks and NPS planners to appropriately prioritize and allocate stewardship resources.

The six sites that comprise the First State National Historical Park are spread throughout the state of Delaware on more than 1,350 acres. The sites present places and stories of the early colonial history of Delaware, and the role Delaware played in the establishment of a new nation—including being the first state to ratify the U.S. Constitution. In addition to learning about the history of these six sites, visitors to the Brandywine Valley unit of the park can hike over 20 miles of trails, fish the creek, and horseback ride in the valley.
