Conducting Collections Research

The National Park Service welcomes use of its museum collections by anyone with a legitimate need. The South Florida Collections Management Center does not maintain a reference collection of publications such as encyclopedias, scientific or historical journals, or books about the parks it serves. Access to National Park Service computers by researchers is very limited, and there is no wifi in our facilities. Therefore, researchers are encouraged to complete their preliminary research at other archives and libraries or by using online resources available elsewhere.

Researchers are also encouraged to contact the SFCMC before planning a visit to our facility. Sometimes, depending on the nature of the requested material and available staff time, we can respond to requests by sending digital files by email or photocopies by mail. Our facility does not have a large space to accommodate researchers, so we may be forced to limit the number of researchers with us at any given time. More information about research policies, directions, and contact information is found on our access and use web page.

Tours or Class Visits

The SFCMC is pleased to provide tours of our facilities or class orientations for students doing research in our collections. Please use the contact form to request a tour or class visit. Schedule a tour with us!

The SFCMC is open for public access Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. by appointment only and subject to staff availability. Closed on all federal holidays and whenever Everglades National Park is closed (for instance, because of hurricane activity).
