Essential Question

The National Park Service (NPS) is a governmental agency that contains over 400 sites across the country united by a common mission. As future engages citizens, it is important for students to understand what we do, how we accomplish our mission, and how they are able to help in the future.

Objective

Students will be able to:
- Identify the benefits of public lands.
- Compare how careers that students are familiar with are similar to careers in the NPS
- Asses how people in different divisions work together to solve problems.
- Collaborate to solve a real-world problem by role playing, communicating, and negotiating.

Preparation

Trivia questions about National Parks to determine prior knowledge and a discussion about why there are national parks.

Materials

A teacher's guide for a classroom visit from a ranger.
