Essex Heritage is proud to offer Park for Every Classroom (PEC), an award winning professional development program in partnership with the National Park Service based on the model of Place-Based Service Learning (PBSL).

We plan to visit several sites in Essex County such as: Salem Maritime and Saugus Iron Works national historic sites, Groundwork Lawrence, Cape Ann Museum, Crane Estate
and more!

Why PEC?
•Get inspired to make your curriculum more engaging by utilizing community resources such as: public lands, local habitats, museums, non-profits and businesses
•See how immersive experiences in PBSL develop the critical thinking skills and civic agency ethic our students need

What will I do at the week-long workshop?
•Discover cross-disciplinary educational opportunities and learn from experts at organizations within Essex County
•Develop strategies to incorporate PBSL into your teaching practice
•Collaborate with other educators across the county

What do I earn for participating?
•Professional Development Points (PDPs) - PDPs will be awarded to participants who attend the week long workshop but do not wish to implement a project.
•Graduate Credit - 3 Graduate Credits ($325 paid by participant) from Salem State University will be awarded to participants who attend the week long workshop and plan, implement, and document a PBSL project with students during the 2022-2023 school year.
•Mini Grants (amount TBD) - will be awarded on a competitive basis to participants who attend the week long workshop and plan, implement, and document a PBSL project with students during the 2022-2023 school year.

Note: We are committed to providing an experience that is informative and inspiring, but most importantly safe. We will adhere to any safety recommendations this summer by adjusting the program as needed.
