Essential Question

How will rising sea levels affect St. Augustine and resources, like Castillo de San Marcos and Fort Matanzas National Monuments?

Objective

Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of cause and effect of sea level rise by completing a cause and effect chart.

Background

Read about Climate Change at Castillo de San Marcos and Climate Change at Fort Matanzas. 

Preparation

  • Check the video links are ready for the lesson hook. 
  • Prepare how the students will create their Cause/Effect Chart, e.g., on paper, tablet, poster, whiteboards, etc.

  2. Explore NASA Climate Kids 
  3. Fill in the Cause and Effect Chart

Assessment Materials

Cause and Effect Chart

Create a chart labeled with two columns: Cause and Effect. The cause column should include the reasons or the "why" sea level rise is happening. The effect column should include the results or the "what" is happening due to sea level rise.

Work with your exceptional student education or special education teachers to modify the lesson to meet the specific needs of your students with different abilities.
