One of the challenges of studying women’s history is the lack of information; there is so much we don’t know. For a long time, it was considered “improper” for women to engage in record keeping in their own lives. Former First Lady Martha Washington burned all of her personal letters between herself and George Washington after his death. This provides ample opportunity for contention over what actually happened in the lives of these women. This program exampines some controversial aspects of first lady history and has students attempt to get to the bottom of some mysteries.
