Thing to Do
Brooks Overlook

NPS/Sheila Malone
Brooks Overlook is located approximately 10 minutes from the Sandstone Visitor Center and gives viewers a remarkable view of a Bald eagle's nest. The two Bald eagles that live in a nest on the small island below have been year round residents for several years. Rafters and fishermen take extra care not to land on the small island where the eagles reside as to not disturb their nest.
When viewing down into the New River from the Brooks Overlook, look closely at the far right side of the island and look for a dead tree with a rather large nest. Many report eagle sightings year round.
