Hanford: Tour the Pasco Aviation Museum

© BRIAN BURGHART
Visitors to the Pasco Aviation Museum can see World War II era aircraft up close, learn about Washington state’s role in the development of military and civilian flight, and watch airplanes in action as they take off and land from the adjacent Tri-Cities airport.
The museum is in the old control tower, which was once part of Seattle’s Sand Point Naval Air Station during World War II. It became one of the three largest training bases for aviators in the United States. The Naval Air Station was just part of the military presence in Pasco during World War II. Pasco also housed the Pasco Holding and Reconsignment Center (Big Pasco), a major depot used to store and ship military equipment to the Soviet Union, as well as to the Northwest military installations and the Manhattan Project.
