Paddle the Nanticoke Water Trail

Chicone Creek

The Nanticoke Water Trail is made up of more than 25 public boat launches and piers along the Nanticoke River and Fishing Bay. Below is the complete list of access points along with suggested itineraries. For more information, visit paddlethenanticoke.com. 

Itineraries: 

-Beginning at the boat launch in Vienna, Maryland, paddle upstream to Chicone Creek. This was the location of a Nanticoke chief's town called "Kuskarawaok" during the time of Captain John Smith's voyages. The creek will be on your left shortly after you pass under the Rt. 50 bridge. The creek offers beautiful views that evoke the landscape as it would have been 400 years ago. On returning, visit the museums in Vienna. 
-Visit the Seaford Museum in Seaford, Delaware for exhibits on topics ranging from the Nanticoke Indians to regional industries. Afterwards, launch your kayak from the Seaford Canoe & Kayak Launch. 
-Paddle Broad Creek by beginning at Roger C. Fisher Park in Laurel, Delaware and ending at Edward Koch Access Point for a shorter trip (3 miles) or Phillips Landing for a longer trip (8 miles). After your paddle, visit the Laurel Historical Society's museums and view a monument of Captain John Smith.
-Head to the Elliot Island Public Landing for Bay paddling, birding, and loblolly pines.
