Most of the walking tour is outside, however pets are not allowed in Plains High School, Plains Depot, and the businesses downtown. Service Dogs are allowed at all locations. A Service Dog is trained to do particular tasks for a person with a physical or mental disability.

Plains High School- Jimmy Carter National Historical Park
Plains High School is where both President and Mrs. Carter attened school from grade one to eleven; a twelfth grade not being added until 1952.
President Carter graduated in 1941, and Rosalynn Carter graduated in 1944.
Today the restored Plains High School serves as the visitor center and museum for the Jimmy Carter National Historical Park.

Plains High School is open from 9am until 5pm daily. The stores in the downtown area have varying hours and may be closed on holidays,
Accessibility Information
The Self-Guided Walking Tour of Plains, is one that occurs on both city streets, sidewalks, and crosses roads and busy highways. The total length of the tours is about 2 miles. For those with mobility issues it can be challanging as the sidewalk can be narrow and uneven in places. The use of crosswalks in the downtown area is highly suggested.
