Watch the Fort Union Trading Post Orientation Film

The Most Important Trading Post Of Its Time
During Fort Union's 39 years of existence (1828 to 1867), it was a center of peaceful economic and social exchange between Northern Plains Tribes and other cultures. Fort Union was the longest-lasting trading post on the frontier. This film journeys through Fort Union's impact on the Upper Missouri River's historical and cultural landscape from pre-fort to current reconstruction. Subjects include how Fort Union enculturated into existing trade networks. Utilizing firsthand accounts and oral tradition from park affiliated tribes, historical records, archeology, and current historical understanding, this film, produced in 2017 is a great way to begin or end your visit to Fort Union.
