Theodore Roosevelt National Park is excited to introduce the Junior Wilderness Ranger Program, launching on September 2nd. This new program is designed for both adults and children who are eager to explore, learn, and contribute to the protection of our natural landscapes.

Program Highlights:
  • Big Plateau/Elkblom Wilderness Hike: The program kicks off with a hike starting at Peaceful Valley Ranch, featuring a river crossing. This 5.3-mile loop trail, with an estimated duration of 3 hours and an elevation gain of 534 feet, offers participants an immersive experience of the park's badlands wilderness.
  • Junior Wilderness Ranger Patch: Participants who complete the program will earn a Junior Wilderness Ranger Patch, recognizing their commitment to conservation and their newfound knowledge of the park.
Join us for the official launch event on September 2nd at 9:00 a.m. at Peaceful Valley Ranch (mile 7, South Unit Scenic Drive). The event will include the wilderness hike, opportunities to meet Ranger Peelee and Ranger Nate, and a chance to be among the first to receive the Junior Wilderness Ranger designation.

We look forward to sharing this adventure with you and your young explorers!

This program is made possible through the generous support of the Theodore Roosevelt Nature and History Association.
