Volunteer Service Agreement

All volunteers are required to have a signed Volunteer Service Agreement (OF301a) on file. If you are under the age of 18, a parent will have to sign the form as well. This form will have to be filled out and updated every year. Without this you are not considered an official volunteer. A link to the form will be provided below.

In addition to this form, you are required to attend BATS training. Trainings is a one day event and are held about once a week starting in mid-May through mid-June. If you have not completed training, contact the Volunteer Coordinator.

Service Description

A Service Description (SD) is a document given to volunteers that lists all the responsibilities and expectations for volunteers in their role. SD will list out all the responsibilities BATS have and what is expected out of every volunteer. Link to document will be below.

Main Responsibilities Include:

  • Hike the trail and provide basic safety information to visitors. Notify park rangers of any emergencies on trail.

  • Follow cave tours to ensure groups stay together.

  • Assist park rangers and visitors during cave tour with turning on lights, leading visitors out of the cave when necessary, and anything else that may come up.

Note: Volunteers not able to do anything that is not listed in their position description. If there is anything else you would want to do, then please let us know so we can update your SD.

Job Hazard Analysis

A Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) is a document given to volunteers that lists all the potential hazards that a volunteer would encounter during their role. Every volunteer position has their own set of potential hazards. The park provides this document to ensure volunteers are aware of what their role entails when volunteering. Link to JHA document will be linked below.

Main Hazards Include:
  • Rock fall
  • Cave conditions - slippery and wet conditions, low handing rocks, dark and hard to see areas
