Timucuan Times- Hold a peice of Timucuan technology in your hands in this Ranger led feild trip at the Timucua Town exhibit at Fort Caroline. This tactile learning expericane let's students engage with pottery, tools, furs, and more all while learning about the daily life of the Timucua-speaking Mocama people who lived here. Students are invited to travel back in time though play. They will discover how the Timucua fed, clothed, and housed themselves through a series of interactive stations. Examples include grinding corn, guess the tool, and games that Timucua children played that helped them learn how to participate in Timucua society

Investigating a Tabby Cabin- Students learn about excavation, history, recording data, and archaeology in this hands on activity based on the digs at Kingsley Plantation. Students uncover the stories, make educated guesses, and present their findings in this tarp activity presented in the barn.

Know Before You Go

Following these guidelines makes a trip to the park enjoyable for everyone. It is the teacher's responsibility to share this information with chaperones and students prior to arrival at the park. If you have any special needs, please contact park staff. These guidelines apply to self and ranger guided programs.

  1. Reservations are required; the size of our facility is limited.
  2. Stay on the trails!
  3. Only 30 people can tour the Timucuan Preserve Visitor Center at one time.
  4. Leaders are responsible for group behavior.
  5. A minimum of one chaperone for every ten students is required.
  6. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing appropriate for the weather. Be prepared for biting insects.
  7. Picnic tables are avaliable at both sites but only Fort Caroline is covered.
  8. Bus parking at Fort Caroline is designated, at Kingsley Plantations bus parking is in the general lot.
