Tonto National Monument will implement fire restrictions beginning Saturday, May 25, 2024. These restrictions coincide with similar restrictions going into effect on other public lands in southern Arizona.

The fire restrictions prohibit the following acts:
1. Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle, a developed recreation site/improved site or while stopped in an area at least (3) feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of any flammable material. [36 CFR 2.21(a)]
The purpose of these restrictions is to ensure the safety of park visitors and employees, and for the protection of National Park Service lands, resources, and facilities. These restrictions will remain in effect until rescinded. Violation of these restrictions is punishable by a fine of not more than $5,000, or imprisonment for no more than six months, or both. These restrictions are pursuant to the authority contained in Title 36 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Sections 1.5(a)(1) and 1.5(a)(3).

We ask the public to please recreate safely and responsibly. Avoid high-risk outdoor activities, follow local area health orders, practice Leave No Trace principles, and avoid crowding.
