Reopening After Black Fire

Roosevelt, AZ – Tonto National Monument will reopen to the public on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, after being closed due to the Black Fire. The park will resume normal summer operations, with the visitor center, bookstore, and picnic area open daily from 8 am to 5 pm. The Lower Cliff Dwelling Trail will be open from 8 am to 12 pm.  

Fire operations are ongoing in the area. Motorists are encouraged to slow down and use caution when traveling to, from, and in the monument. Emergency vehicles and firefighters may be present along roadways and smoke may affect visibility along roads. Information about fire operations is available on the Black Fire InciWeb page.

Tonto National Monument would like to thank all those involved in managing the Black Fire, including the Southwest Area Incident Management Team 3, United States Forest Service – Tonto National Forest, Gila County, and Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management. We remain grateful to all firefighters assigned to the incident and their dedicated work to help protect these important cultural and natural resources.
