Join us Saturday, September 3rd at Tuzigoot National Monument for a celebration of art and the night sky. From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., art supplies will be provided for visitor use. Large sketch pads on easels will also be stationed on the trails for visitor use. Our art theme will spill over into the evening during our free star party. The evening will begin at7:30 p.m.with a 30 minute presentation from Greg McKelvey from the Rim Country Camera Club. He will discuss how to compose a night time photograph. After the presentation, Greg will escort 15 students up to the Tuzigoot Pueblo Trail for a hands-on lesson. To register for the hands on portion of this class, please visit www.tuziphoto.eventbrite.com. Class registration will last from August 14th-31st. Only registered students may participate in the hands on portion of this free class. The Astronomers of the Verde Valley will also have several telescopes set up for night sky viewing. Open viewing will be from8 p.m. to 10 p.m, at which time the monument will close. We recommend that you bring a flashlight that has a red filter to make it easier for your eyes to adjust to the dark. Closed toed shoes and water are also recommended. If you are planning to bring children, we kindly request that they do not wear "light-up shoes" as this has a negative impact on the night sky environment. Tuzigoot National Monument is located at 25 W Tuzigoot Rd, Clarkdale, AZ 86324. For more information, please call 928-634-5564 or visit www.nps.gov/tuzi.
