The National Park Service (NPS) seeks students, professionals, and qualified individuals from diverse backgrounds for various internships, seasonal roles, and permanent positions nationwide. To be considered for employment, applicants must be U.S. citizens. Certain jobs may have specific age and physical qualifications, and applicants must generally be at least 18 years old.

The NPS follows U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) regulations for filling positions. Typically, an initial appointment to a permanent position requires eligibility on an appropriate OPM register.

How Jobs Are Filled

Federal agencies fill jobs in several ways. Not all positions are open to external applicants. Agencies may promote current employees, hire those transferring from another agency, reinstate former federal employees, or request names from an OPM register.
