New York State Investigation Utilizing Park Property

Hyde Park – On December 6, 2024 a hiker at the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site observed the remains of a woman lying face down near the east shore of the Hudson River south of Bard Rock. The New York State Police in Rhinebeck and the Hyde Park Police Department began investigating the death. The body was not situated on National Park Service land, and the state investigators do not believe the death occurred on park land.

On December 10, the Dutchess County Medical Examiner has confirmed the deceased as a Caucasian female with brown eyes, weighs 112 pounds, 5 feet 5 inches tall, has gray hair, no scars, marks, or tattoos.

National Park Service law enforcement and park leadership are working closely with the State Police to provide access to the Hudson River to continue their investigation. Anyone with information regarding the missing woman in the Hyde Park area is asked to contact State Investigator Filippini at (845) 677- 7300. Please refer to case #NY2400970235.

The National Park Service has no further information on this New York state investigation at this time. For further media information, please contact New York State Troop K Public Information Officer at kpio@troopers.ny.gov.
