Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield hosted a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) media event to promote a speeding prevention campaign. In concert with NHTSA’s Speeding Catches Up with You campaign, law enforcement park rangers will be stepping up high visibility enforcement this month to target speeders and slow them down.

Visitors come to Wilson’s Creek to learn about the battle, to enjoy the wildlife and scenery, and to recreate on our trails. Whatever the motivation, all visitors have a shared responsibility to drive safely and obey the speed limits.

The 5-mile Tour Road at Wilson’s Creek is shared by motorists, bicyclists, and walkers and features wooded sections, hills, and curves. By obeying the speed limit, motorists increase their time to react to unexpected hazards such as wildlife, objects in the road, and other users. So please—slow down and enjoy the ride.

Speed limits are put in place to protect everyone who uses our roads. Please slow down and enjoy the drive to and through Wilson’s Creek National Battlefield.

Staff at Wilson’s Creek would like to thank NHTSA, the Missouri Department of Transportation, and all of our state and local law enforcement partners in this coordinated effort to slow down speeders and save lives.
