Special visit from the Caisson horses of the Army Old Guard

Horses
We are very excited to announce a special visit from the Caisson horses of the Army Old Guard on the afternoon of Sunday, September 15th.

These horses are in training for the honor of solemnly escorting service members’ flag-draped caskets through Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia. They will be here to help acclimate them to crowds and the noise of cannons as we fire our 18-pounder.

You will be able to pet the horses, take photos with them, and meet the soldiers who work with them. By participating, you will play a part in helping these horses prepare for their solemn duty at Arlington National Cemetery.
There will be two to three of these horses on the grounds of the Yorktown Visitor Center on Sunday afternoon, September 15th, so come out to meet them.
Also remember that horses were critical during the 1781 Siege of Yorktown in helping to bring the heavy artillery into position.
